ALICE PHEOBE-LOU WITCHES

South African songwriter Alice Pheobe-Lou merges folk with elements of indie, soul and jazz in order to create her heavenly, classic sound. Growing up on a mountainside in South Africa, it wasn't until the age 16 that she took her songs to the streets when visiting Europe. Lou returned home to finish school but as soon as she could made her way back to Europe, specifically Berlin.  In spite of extensive touring Lou has still continued to perform in Berlin parks and U-Bahn stations. Her new single 'Witches' is a jaunty indie gem ornamented with celestial synths, honeyed guitar strums, driving bass notes and a tight drum part. Unsurprisingly, Lou's vocals release an overflowing passion and radiance as she dances around jazzy notes. In the chorus she confesses her occult identity..."I'm one of those witches babe, I'm one of those witches babe, just don't try to save me cos I don't wana be saved". Towards the end of the song, an arpeggiator throws hectic notes around and the track gains an inspiriting energetic burst. 'Witches' is an emotive journey, aided by the music video which is an amalgamation of warm analogue film clips. -Ellie Rose-Davies
